Biggest Question: Should we upgrade the vcenter and host to 5.5 ??

So answer can be mixed and with debate. I will strongly recommend to wait for next release of 5.5. If you have gone through VMware vSphere® 5.5 Release Notes you might have observed that still there are many bugs in vSphere 5.5.
